Just as in the real world, these projects are goal-oriented and defined as successful or unsuccessful, depending on the outcome. Independent study projects are intended as a lesson for inquisitive and investigative students with an active mind. The projects move with the student after graduation as examples of the capabilities the graduate offers to any employer.
