Initially founded in 1870 by Governor Edward M. McCook from the Morrill Act, Colorado State University is a comprehensive senior public land-grant research institution that serves as the state’s flagship university. Enrolling more than 31,200 students, Colorado State is approved to confer 65 bachelor’s degrees, 55 master’s degrees, and 40 doctoral degrees in a wide variety of academic areas. In addition to its main 586-acre urban campus in Fort Collins at the base of the majestic Rockies, CSU operates a Global Campus for delivering the same high-caliber courses 100 percent online for busy working adults.
As one of the Princeton Review’s “Best 373 Colleges,” Colorado State has been named the 121st best national university and 58th top public school in America by the U.S. News and World Report. In particular, the Global Campus is highly regarded for delivering the country’s 7th best online bachelor’s programs, 53rd best online graduate business programs, and the 86th best online graduate education degrees. CSU Global has also been distinguished among the top five best accredited online universities through the Online Education Database (OEDb) and recognized for the sixth most affordable online master’s degrees on GetEducated.com.
Colorado State University Accreditation Details

Certain individual programs have also achieved their discipline-specific accreditations for academic excellence. Some other notable accreditations include the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC), and the Council of Social Work Education (CSWE).
Colorado State University Application Requirements
For full admissions into CSU Global, students are required to have at least some prior college credit that will be transferred into the online degree completion programs. Applicants seeking to complete their bachelor’s degree online will need to provide a transcript of all credits taken at a regionally accredited institution. Preference is given to students who have maintained a cumulative college GPA of 2.3 or better. Students should also submit a personal statement that outlines their relevant work experience and future career goals after graduation. Non-degree seeking students can complete up to 15 credits and earn a Certificate of Completion for transfer.
Graduate students looking to earn their master’s degree through CSU Global will need to already possess a bachelor’s degree or a foreign equivalent from an accredited university. If students haven’t maintained the minimum overall GPA of 3.0 in their undergraduate studies, a personal statement must be written to highlight other good indicators of exceptional promise. Along with GRE or GMAT scores, international students must submit the results from the IELTS exam with an overall band score of at least 5.0. Official transcripts are required directly from previous institutions attended along with an application and resume.
Since the courses for CSU Global are completed online, there’s also technology requirements that interested applicants must abide by to successfully begin their studies. Students must have their own personal computer, which can be either a PC or Mac with at least an Intel Core 2 Duo. The online learning classroom can be accessed from the latest versions of Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, or Google Chrome. Due to the multimedia technologies used in the online courses, it’s best for students to have high-speed Internet access. Applicants should have already downloaded important software like Acrobat Reader, QuickTime, Windows Media Player, and Microsoft Office to complete online assignments.
Tuition and Financial Aid
As a non-profit institution, Colorado State is dedicated to keeping education affordable by offering a tuition guarantee that locks in attendance costs for up to five years as long as students remain in good academic standing. Through CSU Global, online students can expect to pay $350 per credit hour or $1,050 per course for earning their undergraduate degree. Graduate students attending the Global Campus must pay $500 per credit hour or $1,500 per course to fulfill their master’s degree online. So, a standard undergraduate program will cost around $31,500 and a standard graduate program will cost around $18,000 total.
To help students afford these costs, CSU automatically selects students for a variety of financial aid opportunities in the admissions process after a FAFSA form is filed. In addition to the slew of federal and private loans that must be repaid with interest, students at CSU with significant financial need may qualify for the Federal Pell Grant, FSEOG Grant, or the TEACH Grant. Active duty and veteran military members are qualified for a special tuition discount of 10 percent. Scholarships are also numerous to gift students with money to cover tuition, including the Academic Excellence Scholarship, First Generation College Student Scholarship, Career Advancement Scholarship, and the Parent/Guardian Scholarship.
