About California State University-Los Angeles
California State University-Los Angeles became an idea in 1770. By 1947 the university was known as Los Angeles State College and was established by the California legislature. That year was the first that the college was open for classes on its campus. A year later, The College Times, which is the student newspaper, was officially published. In 1948, the very first graduating class walked across the stage. In 1949, the college’s name was changed to Los Angeles State College of Applied Arts and Sciences and it had 2,187 students enrolled. In 1952 the very first master’s degrees were presented. Everyone wanted to remember the progress of the university, so in 1957 the state of California sealed a time capsule.
In 1958, the library, along with 10 new buildings were established. By 1962 the North Hall opened, and in 1963, commencement was held at one of the new sites. LA State College received a new name and became known as California State College at Los Angeles. In 1965 the California Intercollegiate Press recognized The College Times as one of the best newspapers on a college campus. In 1972, the college system changed its name to California State University-Los Angeles which is when the Cal State officially obtained university status. Many refer to the institution as Cal State LA. To keep up with the transition, The College Times changed its name to The University Times.
Throughout its years of development, Cal State LA added more departments, colleges, and programs. Today, Cal State LA celebrates many anniversaries for its educational programs and groundbreaking exhibitions.

California State University-Los Angeles Application Requirements
Undergraduate students seeking admission should have earned a high school diploma or a GED, achieved a minimum GPA of 2.7, and must have satisfactory English language proficiency standards. Prospective students should submit an online application, satisfactory SAT or ACT scores, official high school transcripts, and an application fee of $55.
Graduate students should also submit an online application as well as official transcripts, supplemental documents such as letters of recommendation, personal essays, a resume or CV, and a $55 application fee. Depending on the department of choice, students may or may not have to supply other required documents to be considered for admissions. Eligibility requirements include the completion of a four-year degree, a minimum GPA of 2.5, and satisfactory English language proficiency requirements.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Undergraduate students who are residents of the State of California and commute to campus will pay a tuition of $18,243. California residents who reside on campus will pay a tuition of $28,023. For students who reside off-campus, tuition will be $28,294. These overall costs include the price of books and supplies, room and board, as well as miscellaneous fees and transportation Fees.
Undergraduates who are non-residents of the State of California and choose to commute to campus will pay a tuition of $27,747. Non-residents who reside on campus will pay a tuition of $37,527. For students who live off-campus, tuition will be $37,798. These costs include the price of books and supplies, room and board, as well as miscellaneous and transportation fees.
Graduate tuition is the same as undergraduate prices for both California residents and non-California residents. Graduate students will pay an extra fee of $8,178, as well as credential tuition fees of $7,662.
