The New Jersey Institute of Technology has received its share of nods from prestigious organizations and media companies. Graduates of NJIT are likely to earn six-figure salaries, according to Money Magazine. US News and World Report has given it several nods as well. It ranks 41st on the news site’s Best Value Schools list, 63rd on its Best Colleges for Veterans list and 97th on its National Universities list.
The school has six colleges within the university system. They are the School of Management, the Honors College, the Newark College of Engineering, the College of Architecture and Design, the College of Liberal Arts and the College of Computing.
New Jersey Institute of Technology has its share of popular degrees. The New Jersey Institute of Technology is a public, R1-level research university located in Newark, New Jersey. The university spends a great deal of money on research. It spent $142 million and $162 million in 2017 and 2018, respectively. Student and faculty researchers from the university have conducted research in materials science, mathematics, nanotechnology, cybersecurity, biomedical engineering, and solar-terrestrial physics.
When they’re not in the research lab, students can take part in athletics. New Jersey Institute of Technology is in Division I. Some of the sports that students participate in are baseball, cross country, lacrosse, basketball, and tennis.
There are also numerous clubs and organizations that students can involve themselves in during their off hours. These include the Amateur Radio Club, Engineers Without Borders, the NJIT Biology Society, the NJIT Solar Car Team, Game Club, the NJIT Anime Club, Society of Musical Arts, Bible Study Club, the Coptic Society, Amnesty International, Boxing Club, Filmmaking Club, and the NJIT Archery Club. New Jersey Institute of Technology is also home to a number of fraternities and sororities, including Alpha Sigma Phi, Delta Epsilon Psi, Kappa Xi Kappa and Lambda Sigma Upsilon.

New Jersey Institute of Technology Application Requirements
Students seeking every type of degree at the New Jersey Institute of Technology can apply online. The New Jersey Institute of Technology has academic admissions requirements for incoming freshmen students.
The school considers students who graduate within the top 25% of their graduating class. Students who have taken Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate classes in high school will likely feel prepared for and do well in their work at NJIT.
Incoming first-year students should submit the following when they apply:
- The NJIT application
- The required $75 application fee
- ACT or SAT test scores
- Letter of recommendation
- Transcripts
- Portfolio (College of Architecture and Design applicants)
Transfer applicants should have completed at least 15 semester hours in science, English composition and math. Most majors require pre-calculus and physics or chemistry.
International students will have to meet the visa and English-placement requirements. International students whose first language is not English should take either the TOEFL or the IELTS. The school will additionally ask for a photocopy of international students’ passports.

Tuition and Financial Aid
Students who study at the New Jersey Institute of Technology can apply for financial aid in order to cover the costs of their tuition, fees and other expenses. Incoming students who wish to receive financial aid should fill out the FAFSA, which qualifies them for federal student loans, grants, and work-study. The NJIT also offers students scholarships and works with members of the military to help them take advantage of their military benefits.
NJIT charges different tuition rates for in-state and out-of-state residents. At the undergraduate level, New Jersey residents pay $14,448 for tuition, while non-residents pay $30,160 for tuition. Fees run just over $3,000. The school also estimates that students will pay around $13,000 for room and board. Books and supplies will run between $3,000 and $4,000, depending on the major.
Graduate students pay $20,624 if they are New Jersey residents. Out-of-state residents pay $30,540 for their graduate studies. Books and supplies run about $1,500, give or take. Room and board will be about the same as it is for undergraduates.
The New Jersey Institute of Technology’s cost per credit runs about $1,300. Fees per credit are $189.
