About Ivy Tech Community College

Ivy Tech Community College originated in 1963 when the General Assembly approved the Indiana Vocational Technical College for lower-division career education. In January 1970, it was regionally accredited to award associate degrees. By 1995, it was officially renamed Ivy Tech based on the former school’s initials. Four years later, it worked with Vincennes University to establish the Community College of Indiana system. With Senate Act 296, it became the state’s primary public career training institution controlling 46 locations from Sellersburg to Evansville in 2005. In 2008, Ivy Tech was given authority over several of Indiana University’s technical programs. One decade later, Ivy Tech Community College debuted six new degrees like the Mechanical Engineering Technology AS. Budgeting $494 million, Ivy Tech now educates 98,778 for-credit Bears on Blackboard and in 75 communities with a well-known Student Leadership Academy. Ivy Tech Community College Accreditation Details

On April 15, 2019, Ivy Tech Community College will face its next comprehensive evaluation visit from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association (HLC-NCA) to continue the Level I accreditation for 10 more years under its ninth president, Dr. Sue Ellspermann, who accepted the 2014 Public Leadership in the Arts Award. Based 129 miles northwest via Route 35 in Chicago, this esteemed 19-state Midwest accreditor is recognized by the U.S. Education Department and Indiana Commission for Higher Education. Ivy Tech Community College Application Requirements

Getting into Ivy Tech Community College is labeled “least selective” by the U.S. News & World Report for welcoming 100 percent of the 21,216 Fall 2013 applicants for open enrollment. Incoming for-credit Bears must be 18 years of age or older with suitable academic backgrounds at accredited high schools. Preference is given for the Core 40 or Technical Honors curriculum. The only alternatives are scoring at least 500 on HSE Exam sections or145 on GED Test sections. Assessments are waived for freshmen with cumulative 2.6 GPAs. Otherwise, Ivy Tech seeks at least 17 English, 18 Reading, and 18 Math ACT marks. The SAT qualifies with 510 Reading and Writing plus 500 Math scores. Some present the PSAT for 26 Writing, 25 Reading, and 24.5 Math minimums instead. The Dental Hygiene AAS requires college prerequisites, such as Microbiology and Quantitative Reasoning. The Health Information Technology AAS stipulates a 2.0 GPA or better in transferred classes like Physiology. New international students also need a 77 MELAB, 6.5 IELTS, or 61 TOEFL iBT mark plus financial affidavits for $19,500.

Ivy Tech Community College generally has a free, 15-minute admission process with rolling deadlines year-round. Priority financial aid enrollment dates are July 15th for Fall, December 1st for Spring, and May 1st for Summer. Several School of Health Sciences programs have explicit deadlines though. For instance, cutoffs are April 1st for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography AAS, June 30th for the Paramedic Science AAS, and May 1st for the Radiation Therapy AAS. Tuition and Financial Aid

For 2018-19, Ivy Tech Community College has charged Indiana residents $140 per credit. Traditional non-resident undergrads pay $275 per credit. Out-of-state online tuition drops to $164 per credit. Active-duty and veteran military costs are $111 per credit. Associate majors must afford a $75 technology fee and $20 Internet fee online. The School of Health Sciences requests a $125 Nursing or Dental Hygiene and $200 Radiation Therapy fee each term. The includED Program covers textbooks for $39 per credit extra. Annual associate attendance equals around $3,656 in-state, $7,152 out-of-state, and $4,288 online. Military and state employees pay $2,890 each year full-time. Ivy Tech suggests budgeting $6,336 for room and board, $1,760 for transport, and $2,400 for personal supplies though.

According to the NCES College Navigator, the Office of Financial Aid disburses $160.15 million overall for 45 percent of Ivy Tech Bears, or 35,560 students, to receive median assistance of $4,504. Institutional funds include the Harvey Poling Memorial Scholarship, Karen Brown Memorial Scholarship, Clell Douglas Scholarship, Altrusa Foundation Scholarship, Esther Reupke Memorial Scholarship, Eitel Family Leadership Scholarship, James Lowes Scholarship, Mary Ann Lewis Memorial Scholarship, and Robert Longardner Scholarship. The Chancellor Scholarship Plan covers full tuition for freshmen in the top 10th percentile with minimum 3.5 GPAs. The $1,000 Bowen Scholars Program has November 1st and April 1st deadlines for African Americans taking 6+ credits. Ten Anthony Moravec Scholars claim $1,000 for STEM degrees at a 2.5 GPA or higher. Eligibility for Federal Pell Grant, SEOG Grant, TEACH Grant, Direct Loan, and Work-Study resources is determined by FAFSA forms coded 009917.
