About East Carolina University

Established in 1907 as a training facility for teachers, East Carolina University is a large university in Greenville, North Carolina with more than 29,000 students. The school’s campus covers nearly 1,600 acres across six different campuses. Degrees are housed within nine undergraduate colleges, a graduate school, and four professional schools. Students who enroll in healthcare-related professions attend classes at the College of Allied Health Sciences, which is a 206-acre campus. The official colors of the university are gold and purple, and the sports teams are nicknamed the Pirates. The school’s mascot is named PeeDee the Pirate, and students participate in NCAA Division I games in The American Conference.

The regional accrediting agency for East Carolina University is the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, and that organization has given its approval for ECU to award college degrees from the baccalaureate to the doctoral level. East Carolina University Application Requirements

Admission requirements for East Carolina University for first-year applicants include a completed application, a non-refundable application fee of $75, and the student’s official high school transcripts. Students must also submit transcripts from any colleges attended, as well as official standardized test scores. Students must complete certain classes in English, mathematics, the natural sciences, social studies, and a foreign language to qualify for admission. Some programs have additional standards or materials that the student must submit. For example, the Department of Engineering has minimum SAT and ACT scores that must be met, and students must also graduate in the top 30 percent of their high school class. Graduate students, too, will apply with special requirements for doctoral, master’s, certificate, or non-degree seeking status. Students can also submit a readmit application if they want to return to ECU after a break.

Tuition and Financial Aid

For resident students who live on campus, the cost of tuition and fees is $7,188, and the cost for room and board is $10,354. The university estimates books and supplies will cost another $1,432 and that the total cost of attendance when all other fees are included will reach $21,672. Non-residents who live on campus will pay $37,949, and that increased rate is due to the out-of-state tuition non-residents must pay when they attend East Carolina University. Students enrolled in distance education will pay a lower rate for tuition with residents paying tuition of $3,994 and non-residents paying $17,192. For graduate students, the tuition rate is $7,485 for residents and $20,634 for non-residents. Graduate students in distance education classes will pay a different rate at $4,487 for residents and $16,089 for non-residents.

Financial aid at East Carolina University is available to all eligible students who submit a FAFSA form. Students may qualify for assistance whether they attend classes on the East Carolina University campus or whether they enroll in distance education courses.
