Community colleges are often associated with low tuition, but not many people think of them as the best investment for long-term success. A new report is changing this perception, however. Released by Georgetown University’s Center on Education and the workplace, the publication—dubbed A First Try at ROI: Ranking 4,500 Colleges—has unveiled a trove of two-year public colleges that pay off big for graduates decades after receiving their degrees. In this ranking, we feature 100 of these schools and rate them according to their net price, long-term ROIs, and national recognition as top community colleges.

Ranking the Most Affordable Community Colleges With High 40-Year ROIs
To develop this ranking, our editors began with an initial pool of 148 two-year community colleges with ROIs at or above $800,000 40 years after graduation, as reported by Georgetown University. We then applied an affordability filter, eliminating those schools with a net price above $10,000. Finally, we applied the rating and ranking methodology above using additional data from College Navigator and Niche.com. In cases of a tie, the more affordable school was awarded the higher ranking.
