Degree Paths at Faith International University

As an institution affiliated with the Christian Church and the Lutheran denomination of Christianity, Faith International University offers its students several programs of study leading to degrees in religion, as well as a handful of programs in secular areas. Religious degrees include a Bachelor of Arts in Religion, a Master of Arts in Leadership Ministry, a Master of Arts in Christian Counseling, and a Master of Arts in Theological Study.

Additional degrees in religious areas are available in theological studies and divinity. Two doctoral programs include a Doctor of Ministry and a Doctor of Strategic Leadership. Students interested in a degree in another area may pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Education, a Bachelor of Arts in Leadership, a Bachelor of Arts in Business, or a Graduate Certificate in Leadership.

There are several specialties and minors available to undergraduate students, including Christian Education, Children’s Ministry, Youth Ministry, and Missions & Evangelism. Students can also enroll in Chaplaincy Studies, Pastoral Ministry, African American Studies, and Life Coaching Programs. Additional specialties include Psychology & Counseling, Church & Non-Profit Administration, and Business & Management.

All of the programs at Faith International University are offered online, but students may also choose to enroll in a hybrid format program where some classes are taken online, and some class sessions are held on campus. When enrolled in online classes, students will receive educational information through pre-recorded lectures and the online delivery platform known as Canvas. Students must have access to a computer with a minimum operating system of Windows 7 or MAC OS 10.3 to receive educational content.

Some of the classes a student may expect to take in general education include General Psychology, Speech Communication, Introduction to Computer Science, and Introduction to Academic Writing. For Bible and ministry classes, students will take classes like Christian Studies Overview, Old Testament Overview, Foundations of Biblical Theology, and Religion Integration & Analysis.

About Faith International University

Faith International University & Seminary is located in Tacoma, Washington and has operated since 1969. The school is affiliated with the evangelical Christian faith and was once known as the Faith Evangelical Seminary. The small school has around 400 students enrolled with about half of those students enrolled at the graduate level. The school’s 34 faculty members are supported by visiting lecturers each year.

The Lutheran Church originally founded the seminary with the intention of ensuring Biblical inerrancy in the teaching of members of the ministry. In the early 1990s, the seminary founded an educational outreach center in Tonga, which is an island in the South Pacific. The seminary also offers classes in the Korean language for Korean-speaking students interested in earning a Master of Arts in Christian Ministry or a Master of Arts in Theological Study.

Students who want to attend one of the degree programs administered by Faith International University must agree to abide by the school’s Doctrinal Statement, which summarizes key Biblical doctrines, as well as the Biblical Code of Conduct published by the university. Students will take classes on the Christian faith even if they aren’t enrolled in a degree meant for work in the ministry.

Faith International University Accreditation Details

The Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) indicates that Faith International University is accredited by the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools Accreditation Commission. The school also holds membership in the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACTS), which classifies the university as a Category IV institution.

The university was last accredited by TRACTS in 2016, and that organization is also recognized by the International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education and the United States Department of Education. The Washington Student Achievement Council also confirms that the school meets the minimum educational standards for a degree-granting institution.

Faith International University Application Requirements

Admission to Faith International University for bachelor’s degree programs requires that students have a high school diploma or its equivalent, as well as a graduating GPA of at least 2.3 on a 4.0 scale. Master’s degree candidates must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a minimum GPA of at least 2.7 on a 4.0 scale.

For the Doctor of Strategic Leadership program, students must have a master’s degree from an accredited institution and must have earned an overall GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale. The Doctor of Ministry program also requires that students possess a graduate degree from an accredited institution with a minimum 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Tuition at Faith International University is based on the level, residency status, and method of delivery a student chooses for their degree. Tuition for each credit hour for undergraduate courses is $180.00 per quarter credit for residents of Washington and online students. Tuition for graduate-level courses is $250.00 quarter credit hour for residents and online students. Tuition for doctoral programs is $275.00 per quarter credit hour for residents and online students.

Prospective students who want to audit a course will pay $253 per course. Students involved in the international missionary program at the bachelor’s and graduate levels will pay $600 per course for undergraduate classes and $675 per course for graduate classes. Students will also pay a non-refundable Student Services fee of $150 each quarter. Other fees a student may need to pay include a $500 Group Mentor Coaching fee, a $2,000 Individual Mentor Coaching fee, and a $450 Summative Writing fee.

Students who attend Faith International University are eligible to participate in the federal financial aid program with loans and grants administered by the U.S. Department of Education. Loans and grants that may be available to students include Federal Pell Grants and loans through the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan program. Students must complete a FAFSA form to gain eligibility for programs.

Students who need additional financial assistance beyond the loans and grants offered through the federal loan program may want to seek out external sources for scholarships. Applicants who are residents of Washington may also have access to state-based financial aid. Students who attend Faith International University may qualify for scholarships offered to students in faith-based degree programs and who attend Christian institutions of higher learning.
