About Rowan University

Rowan University originated in September 1923 when President Jerohn Savitz welcomed an inaugural class of 236 to the Glassboro Normal School for teacher training at Bunce Hall. In 1934, it adopted a four-year model for education bachelor’s degrees. Three years later, it was renamed the New Jersey State Teachers College at Glassboro. In 1944, it debuted one of the United States’ first special education degrees. In 1946, the curriculum was broadened to support returning World War II veterans. By 1958, it was called Glassboro State College. On October 30, 1970, its campus famously hosted Black Sabbath’s first American concert. In 1984, President Herman James launched New Jersey’s earliest public doctorate. In Summer 1992, Ajax engineer Henry Rowan donated $100 million to the College of Engineering. In 1997, the Rowan University name was adopted in his honor.

On November 20, 2014, the Mid-Atlantic States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) Board of Trustees applauded Rowan University for upholding the 14 Standards of Excellence by reaffirming the Level VI accreditation through 2024 under its seventh president, Dr. Ali A. Houshmand, who earned the NJ Research & Development Council Educator of the Year Award. Rowan University Application Requirements

Enrolling at Rowan University is labeled “moderately difficult” by Peterson’s because just 8,159 of the 13,900 Fall 2017 applicants were chosen for competitive 59 percent acceptance. First-year Profs should graduate high school with 120 content area credits, including 20 English and 15 Mathematics credits. GED recipients age 16+ with section scores above 145 would qualify. The Class of 2021 had an average secondary GPA of 3.52. The middle 50th percentile had SAT Math scores of 520-630 and SAT Reading scores of 490-590. Freshmen presented mid-range ACT marks of 22-27. Admission is test-optional for high school seniors meeting a 3.5 GPA minimum. Online B.A./B.S. degrees are reserved for working adults with associate degrees and 60+ transfer credits. The Graduate School seeks entrants with regionally accredited bachelor’s at 2.75 GPAs and better. M.S. in Biomedical Sciences cohorts need five prerequisites like Physics and Organic Chemistry. The Ph.D. in Engineering mandates 3.2 GPAs and GRE scores above 300.

Rowan University published freshman deadlines of May 1st for Fall and December 15th for Spring enrollment. Apply before January 31st for Merit Scholarship consideration. Transfers are welcome until November 15th and June 1st each year. The Graduate School has standard deadlines of July 1st, November 1st, and April 1st. However, the M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling closes on February 15th. Prospective Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering cohorts must file by October 1st. Tuition and Financial Aid

For 2018-19, Rowan University charged full-time New Jersey undergrads $4,929 each term. Non-resident bachelor’s tuition was $9,250 by semester. Students covered university fees of $1,919 every term. Studying part-time incurred $378 to $712 per credit. Living at the Glassboro campus’ dorms like Holly Pointe Commons added $4,157 to $5,667 for semester rent. Unlimited meal plans for Chamberlain Student Center were $2,240 extra. Rowan budgeted $1,600 for books and $4,250 for miscellaneous yearly. Annual undergrad attendance equaled $32,099 in-state and $40,741 out-of-state. The Graduate School billed everyone $700 per credit with a $157 university fee per credit. Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine tuition was one exception costing $40,135 each year. Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences cohorts spent only $11,535 annually too.

According to the NCES College Navigator, the Office of Financial Aid on Savitz Hall 1st Floor gets 42 percent of full-time Rowan Profs tuition assistance averaging $6,905 each for $41.87 million combined. University funds include the International Student Scholarship, Inductotherm Scholarship, Veteran & Dependent Scholarship, Transfer Trustee Scholarship, Ashley Soule Conroy Foundation Scholarship, Micro Scholarship, David Cromie Communication Scholarship, August Bagin Memorial Scholarship, Beatrice Miller Van Doren Scholarship, Evelyn Slobodzian Excellence in Reading Scholarship, and Atlantic City Fleet Reserve Association Scholarship. The Rowan Scholars Program has a January 31st deadline for freshmen with minimum 1220 SAT or 25 ACT scores. New Jersey transfers with GPAs above 3.25 pursue the $2,500 STARS II Scholarship. Other state-based programs like the Governor’s Industry Vocations Scholarship, World Trade Center Scholarship, and Tuition Aid Grant help.
