Students attending Niagara University may enroll in more than 80 programs of study, and the university offers a unique option called the Academic Exploration Program for new students. Enrollees don’t need to declare a major immediately and can take classes from multiple departments before choosing a degree focus. The program has been lauded by the National Academic Advising Association.

When attending Niagara University, students enroll in programs housed within four academic departments. Academic colleges include the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Hospitality and Tourism Management, the College of Education, and the College of Business. Most of the university’s programs are offered within the College of Arts and Sciences.

Many of the university’s degrees are offered in multiple levels and with several available concentrations. The university’s most sought-after majors include those in business, education, health professions, the social sciences, and the biological sciences. Within the university’s education programs, there are many ways to concentrate and specialize in narrow areas.

For example, students can earn a bachelor of arts or bachelor of science in adolescence education with a focus on biology, English, math, Spanish, social studies, French, or chemistry. Students in adolescence education will be qualified to teach grades seven through 12. Alternatively, students can choose a program in childhood and middle-level childhood education which will allow graduates to work with grades one through nine.

Within the College of Business Administration, where other popular programs are housed, students can earn an undergraduate degree in areas that include accounting, marketing, fraud examination & economic crime, management, leadership, finance, or economics. Meanwhile, students at the graduate level will be able to earn a Master of Business Administration degree or a Master of Science in Finance.

The MBA program is a 16-month program that is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. The master of Science program is a one-year program that requires completion of ten courses in subjects like investments, financial planning, corporate finance, and banking. The university also has a few pre-professional programs, that students may choose if they’re interested in becoming professionals like lawyers or doctors.

Students can enroll in the Pre-Law Advisement Program, which requires classes in criminal justice, philosophy, and history. The Pre-Health Professions Program is designed for future dentists, veterinarians, pharmacists, optometrists, and human medical doctors. Students can also participate in pre-professional degree programs in partnership with The University of Buffalo and Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Students who want to study online will have access to a variety of courses and certificates on academic topics like arts, business, and computer programming. Career training programs available online are offered through a partnership with ed2go, and certificates include the Adobe Certified Associate Certificate, the Certified Residential Interior Designer Certificate, and the Multimedia Arts Certificate.

About Niagara University

Niagara University was founded in 1856 and is affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church. The school was founded by the Congregation of the Mission and was known as the Our Lady of the Angels Seminary. Originally located in Buffalo, the school was moved to its current location in Lewiston a year after it opened its doors. The school is still run by the Vincentian Fathers, and all the presidents of the school have been part of the priesthood.

The school’s official colors are white and purple, and students on the men’s ice hockey team play as the Purple Eagles in NCAA Division I games. The school’s mascot is known as Monte. The university has around 4,200 students enrolled in its programs with around half of its students living on campus and the other half attending as commuters.

Niagara University Accreditation Details

Regional accreditation for Niagara University comes from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The university will next undertake the accreditation process during the 2024 to 2025 school year. Many of the school’s academic departments and programs are also accredited by various organizations recognized by state and national agencies.

The Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling & Related Educational Programs. The university’s programs in education are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. Niagara University Application Requirements

Admission to Niagara University for undergraduate and graduate students begins with the official application. Students may complete The Common Application if they wish when applying to the university. Students will choose their status as an undergraduate, graduate, transfer, or international student and may also qualify for special admissions when applying as veteran students.

In addition to personal information and details about academic history, students will also need to check with the program in which they want to enroll when choosing to enroll in a graduate program. Applicants will also indicate what learning format they would prefer. Those formats include accelerated classes, evening classes, traditional classes, or online classes.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Tuition at Niagara University for undergraduate students is $31,700 per year, and students may also need to pay a handful of additional fees. For example, part-time students may need to pay a registration fee of $20 and full-time students may need to pay a student service fee of $1,480 per year. Other fees include a $190 fee for any laboratory courses taken, a $55 fee for some business classes, and various fees for lab supplies for programs in nursing and psychology.

Graduate students will pay a per credit rate that depends on their program. The Master of Business program is $895 per credit, the Master of Science in Finance is $895 per credit, and the Master of Science in Criminal Justice Administration is $790 per credit. Some students may qualify for the corporate partner rate of $595 per credit for various degrees that include science education, information security, digital forensics, and interdisciplinary studies.

Niagara University is an accredited institution and allows students to apply for federal student aid for loans and grants. Students may also earn third-party scholarships. Students who qualify for a Federal Perkins Loan will need to complete an entrance interview and sign a promissory note before receiving their funds. Scholarships a student may earn when they attend Niagara University include Vincentian scholarships, endowed scholarships, or veteran’s scholarships.
