In 1950, Sacred Heart switched to a four-year liberal arts curriculum. Coeducational since 1965, it gained regional accreditation in 1967. Six years after, it was named Kansas Newman College after the 19th-century English theologian. In 1979, Kansas Newman organized the Nursing Department.
