The University of Texas-Dallas (UTD or UT-Dallas) is a part of the University of Texas system with its main campus located in Richardson, TX and four small satellite campuses spread throughout the Dallas, TX area. The school began as a research arm of Texas Instruments in 1961 but was ceded to the state in 1969. It has maintained itself as a preeminent research institution and grown in fame since its inception. Today, the university is the source of education to nearly 30,000 students and is looking to expand further. The school currently offers more than 140 avenues toward degrees in nationally top-rated programs covering various areas of interest such as business, engineering, science, audiology, arts, and technology.

UT-Dallas offers 53 routes toward a baccalaureate degree in diverse areas of study such as business, actuarial science, arts, biology, chemistry, childhood development, information science, criminology, economics, engineering, healthcare, public policy, mathematics, philosophy, physics, and sociology. For students who excel during their first two years at UTD, each school has an honors program that may include an accelerated route toward a master’s level. These students take up to 18 credit hours of undergraduate studies in their field at a graduate level to satisfy the requirements of a dual baccalaureate/master degree.

In the Naveen School of Management, honors students may take masters-level programs entirely online. Though these programs are currently limited, they are also some of the most popular degrees found in the business community. Those masters-level degrees that UT-Dallas offers online include:

Since the school began as a research facility, it is not surprising to find that UTD offers 36 pathways toward a doctoral-level degree. These degrees cover such diverse fields of study as the arts, sciences, education, cognition, business, education, information technology, criminology, economics, engineering, history, humanities, literature, mathematics, political science, and policy. Currently, UT-Dallas does not offer any doctoral degrees online, though some of the courses may be found there.

The University of Texas-Dallas Accreditation Details

The UT-Dallas is regionally accredited through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges. Program accreditations include recognition from such national accrediting agencies as:

The University of Texas-Dallas Application Requirements

Once the applicant has processed their $50 application fee, they enter the University of Texas-Dallas competitive application process. The acceptance rate at UTD is 76% making the college a “selective” school. Each student must send in their SAT or their ACT scores through the testing agency. Current applicants accepted at the school have an SAT score of 1220-1430 or an ACT score of 26-32. The student must also present an official high school transcript that satisfies the high school graduation requirement set by Texas law.

Tuition and Financial Aid

The University of Texas-Dallas offers two tuition plans to its new students—guaranteed and variable. The variable tuition rate begins low and ends high while the guaranteed tuition plan holds steady throughout the four-year schedule. Taking the cost semester by semester, the variable tuition rate begins at $6,792 in semester one, then plans look for a 3.1% jump in semester three to $6,929 and then to $7,144 in semester five and ending in semester seven at $7,366. Those are the planned adjustments, but those hikes may become drops or may jump higher. The guaranteed tuition plan maintains the level of tuition costs for four years at $6,955.

All first-year students apply for a scholarship at UTD before they start looking into other forms of financing. The minimum scholarship to which each student is entitled is $3,000 per semester. The maximum scholarship covers the entire cost of tuition and fees. Other financial aid includes access to Pell Grants, community and organization awards, and to the Federal Student Loan Program.
