Oklahoma Baptist University Application Requirements

For regular admission, students will need an ACT score of 20 or an SAT score of 950. The applicant’s high school GPA must be at least 3.00 or they must have ranked in the upper half of their class. Students who do not qualify for regular admission may be considered for conditional admission, which only requires an ACT score of 17 through 19 or an SAT of 800 through 940. As a third alternative, students who fail to meet the criteria above may apply to the Admissions Committee.

Students must submit a purpose statement that explains their academic and career goals. They also need to submit two letters of reference from teachers and pass an interview with the Dean of Admissions. Students with GEDs are encouraged to apply to the Admissions Committee. They will most likely be limited to 13 hours during the first semester, which includes academic enrichment coursework.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Oklahoma Baptist University is consistently ranked as one of the most affordable Christian colleges in the U.S. When compared to Oklahoma’s other four-year public universities, the total cost of graduating is very low. Oklahoma Baptist University states that their tuition and fee costs are 25 percent below the national average. The tuition rate in 2016 is $22,710 with fees costing $2,600, housing costing $3,250 and meals costing $3,760. This totals to $32,320 per year, which is quite affordable.

Oklahoma Baptist University’s academic grants and scholarships are awarded to students based on academic achievements, not financial need. They are automatically renewed if the student maintains the appropriate GPA. In 2016, the annual academic grant for students with a 2.5 GPA is $2,000; students with a 3.0 GPA will receive $10,000. The Academic Scholars Program provides scholarships to academically high performing students through providing $4,000 to help cover various costs.

Oklahoma Baptist University also has many generous talent and athletic scholarships. These awards are based on achievements and are renewable for four years as long as the student maintains the right GPA. The Band Award provides up to $1,000 for non-music majors who are members of the Symphonic Band. The Club Sports Scholarship awards $300 for students who participate in club sports programs, while the Fine arts scholarship awards up to $4,000 for students who competitively demonstrate their art, music or theater talents.

Student Experience

Oklahoma Baptist University offers three types of sports-based degree programs: exercise physiology, personal training and rehabilitation services. The exercise physiology degree program teaches physical wellness through kinesiology. This program places students in practicums with mentors, so students can gain in-depth insight into the profession. The curriculum includes standard movement science classes, such as biomechanics, human anatomy, exercise physiology and kinesthetic learning. Students go to work in the fields of health promotion and commercial wellness. The personal training degree allows students to specialize in strength and conditioning. Graduates go on to become personal trainers at commercial fitness centers, with professional sports teams and as independent entrepreneurs.

On the other hand, the master’s degree in marriage and family therapy degree combines Christian principles with modern therapeutic concepts and techniques. The program prepares graduates to become licensed marriage and family therapists with a strong Christian perspective. The program boasts high academic quality, faculty with clinical experience and strong foundation that result in high licensure pass rates. Students have the options of finishing their degree within two, three or four years. This program includes classes on family therapy.

Students enjoy their experiences at Oklahoma Baptist University because the environment is safe and there are great security measures.
