Degree candidates complete a core curriculum of 33 quarter hours, with required course topics including sustainable energy, environmental planning, science and society, and geographic information systems. Students then choose either the science specialization, taking classes in geology, hydrology, and environmental health issues, or in the policy specialization, taking classes in public health and resource management.

Northeastern University is regionally accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc. (NEASC).
