Humphrey’s University offers degrees on more than a dozen subjects at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and students may also enroll in credential and certificate programs. Areas of study include accounting, community studies, criminal justice, legal studies, liberal studies, early childhood education, court reporting, and business administration. Students can also earn their Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, enroll in a Master of Business Administration program, pursue a Master’s in Education degree, or pursue a law degree from the Drivon School of Law.

Two of the popular programs at Humphrey’s University are the Bachelor of Science in Management Accounting and the Bachelor of Science in Public Accounting. Students will take classes like Business Law, Computerized Accounting, Operations Management, Accounting Ethics, and Personal Financial Management. Students will learn about tax reporting requirements, standard audit processes that comply with regulatory and organizational rules, and accounting principles to evaluate organizational performance.

Another popular program is the Master of Business Administration, which allows students to apply year round and offers students the opportunity to qualify for scholarships. Some of the topics under discussion in the program include marketing and business communications, business planning, finance, and accounting, and core business functions. Classes a student will take in the MBA program include Business Leadership, Strategic Management, Corporate Financial Management, Data Analysis, and Marketing Management. At the conclusion of the program, students may become a Budget Analyst, Marketing Manager, Operations Manager, Financial Manager, or Benefits Manager.

One of the most diverse areas for study at Humphrey’s University is law, and students can either enroll in a program like Court Reporting or Legal Studies or pursue a Juris Doctor from the university’s law school. Students who enroll in the Court Reporting program can complete their studies online and can earn a Bachelor of Science that’s approved by the Court Reporters Board of California. Students will learn specialized shorthand, how to transcribe, and how to use real-time translation software. Students will also learn medical, legal, and specialized terminologies commonly used in court proceedings. At the other end of the spectrum is the Juris Doctor degree, which prepares students to take the California Bar examination.

Students who want to become teachers may want to consider the teacher credential program at Humphrey’s University. At the conclusion of study, students will earn their Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, as well as learn the academic and practical aspects of teaching and receive hands-on teaching experience. Students will also learn about results-oriented teaching strategies and real-world skills they can use in differentiated instruction. Classes a student will take include Foundations of American Education, Curriculum and Instruction for Diverse Elementary Settings, and Cultural Diversity.

About Humphrey’s University

Established in 1896, Humphrey’s University has two campuses in Modesto and Stockton, California. The school was one of the first established in the central San Joaquin Valley and was recently known as Humphreys College until a name change. At its inception, the university was known as the Stockton Business College, Normal School, and Telegraphic Institute.

The university offers degrees from the associate’s through the master’s degree level, as well as a law degree and several certificate programs. The school’s official colors are gold and purple, and there are about 100 academic staff and 60 administrative staff working for the school. All presidents of the university have been relatives of the founder, John R. Humphreys, Sr.

Humphrey’s University Accreditation Details

Regional accreditation for Humphrey’s University comes from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Senior College and University Commission. The university was first accredited by this agency in 1992. However, in 1972, the university was accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges when it was not yet a full university. Today, the university is also approved by the Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities. The Laurence Drivon School of Law, which is part of the university, is accredited by the Committee of Bar Examiners of the State Bar of California, but the school has not sought approval from the American Bar Association.

Humphrey’s University Application Requirements

Admission to Humphrey’s University is available in any quarter since admissions are conducted on a rolling basis. Students can begin classes in any season with quarters starting in April, July, September, and January. First-time students will first complete the official application for admission and submit a $40.00 application fee. Applicants will then have high school transcripts or proof of having earned a GED delivered to the university’s registrar. Those interested in applying for financial aid will also complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and call the university to make an appointment. Students must also take a placement exam to determine whether the student will need to enroll in any basic math or English classes. The application process will conclude when the student speaks with an admissions counselor and registers for classes.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Tuition for students attending Humphrey’s University is $397 per quarter unit. Students enrolled in 12.5 to 16 units will pay a 12-unit rate of $4,764 and students enrolled in 16.5 or more units will pay $397 for each unit beyond 16.5. Students will pay a minimum unit charge of $1,588, which equals a four-unit class. Some programs will require that students pay a different amount. For example, the Court Reporting program will pay $200 per quarter unit. The on-campus law program and the on-campus graduate programs are priced at $539 per quarter unit, and the online Master’s in Education program is $300 per quarter unit. Some specialized online classes are charged at a different rate. Students must pay the balance f their tuition on the first day of the quarter.

Students can qualify for federal student aid when they attend Humphrey’s University and submit their FAFSA form on time. Federal loans may include Pell Grants, Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants, Work-Study grants, and loans through the Direct Student Loan program. Students may be awarded subsidized, unsubsidized, Parent PLUS, or Graduate PLUS loans. Students may also qualify for grant aid through the Cal Grants program, which was created by the legislature in California to help low-income and middle-income families pay for college. Awards are divided into two categories known as entitlement awards and competitive awards.
