The university describes its campus as just the “right size” with small, interactive classrooms. Online classes at Lewis University are administered through a program called Blackboard, which is a learning management system. About Lewis University

Lewis University is a private university affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church and is located in Romeoville, Illinois. The university has approximately 6,800 students attending its campus, which offers more than 80 majors at the undergraduate level and more than 20 graduate programs. The university also offers accelerated degree programs for working adults. Founded in 1932, the school was started by the Archdiocese of Chicago as the Holy Name Technical School.

Later, the school was renamed Lewis University in honor of a philanthropist named Frank J. Lewis, who was responsible for funding several buildings on the school’s campus. The school’s official colors are red and white, and the school’s sports teams are nicknamed The Flyers when they participate in NCAA Division II games. The school’s motto is “Sign of Faith,” and five colleges and schools operate within the university in the areas of art, science, education, health, and professional education.

Lewis University Accreditation Details

The Higher Learning Commission has accredited Lewis University, and this regional accreditation ensures that students can qualify for federal student aid to attend, as well as transfer their classes in and out of the university. The State of Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation has approved the school’s professional programs in nursing and health professions.

The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs has accredited the programs offered by the School of Business. The American Bar Association (ABA) has approved the program in paralegal studies. The Council on Social Work Education Commission on Accreditation has approved the Bachelor of Social Work Program. The Illinois State Board of Education has approved the university’s education degrees.

Lewis University Application Requirements

First-year applicants to Lewis University will apply between December 1 and April 15 for Early Response, Priority Scholarship, and Regular Admission deadlines. With the official application form, students must also submit official high school transcripts, ACT or SAT scores, and a $40 application fee. Students who have earned a GED may submit proof of having earned their diploma.

Students should expect to receive a decision on their application within three weeks of the university having received all application documents. Adults who want to apply to the university will also need to submit the official application and a $40 application fee, as well as official transcripts for all colleges previously attended. Graduate students must submit the same items as adult students and can enroll every eight weeks as sessions each last for two months.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Full-time tuition for undergraduate students is $33,270 a year when students enroll in 12 to 18 hours each semester. Part-time students will pay $948 per semester for each credit hour, and accelerated tuition is $600 for each credit hour. Seminars offered by the College of Business are $948, and the RN to BSN program offered by the College of Nursing is $446 per semester.

Graduate students who attend Lewis University will pay a rate that depends on the program they choose. For example, the Master of Science in Aviation and Transportation Studies is $800 per credit hour, and the Master of Business Administration program is also $800 per credit hour. Online students may pay a different rate than on-campus students. The Master of Science in Public Safety Administration program online is $575 per credit.

Students are encouraged to submit their FASFA form to qualify for financial aid, as well as seek out scholarships and state aid from various sources. The Financial Aid Office shares that 97 percent of students at Lewis University receive some type of financial aid and that the university offers three times the average amount of financial aid over what students might expect to receive at a public school.
