Located in Hayward, California, California State University-East Bay is a public school and is one of the 23 campuses around the state that are part of the California State University system. The school was founded in 1956 and was called State College for Alameda County. Today, the university offers more than 130 academic programs for undergraduates and 60 programs for graduate students. Around 16,000 students are attending the college, which also has satellite campuses in the cities of Concord and Oakland. Until recently, the university operated on a quarter system for classes but transitioned into a semester system with the start of classes in the fall of 2018. The suburban campus covers 200 acres in Hayward, and the school’s official colors are red and black.

California State University-East Bay Application Requirements
Admission to CSU East Bay as a first-year student requires that students submit their application by the first of April. All secondary school units taken by the student require a minimum grade of “C” or better, and the school also accepts students who have earned a GED. Students are required to submit standardized test scores from the SAT or ACT but are not required to take the Subject Tests. Students must take a variety of classes in high school to qualify for admission like four units of English, two units of a foreign language, and three units of math. The university will also consider recommendations, as well as personal abilities and talents exhibited by the student. Students who wish to apply to one of the university’s graduate programs will submit an application to their chosen program and will need to meet several general requirements for admission like possessing a bachelor’s degree, exhibit appropriate academic standing at their last college, and have a grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale for the last 60 semester credit units taken.
Tuition and Financial Aid
All students attending California State University schools pay the same base tuition and may pay additional fees connected with their campus and academic program. System-wide, students at CSU schools pay $2,871 per semester for seven or more units or $5,742 for the whole year. Students who take less than seven units will pay $1,665 for the semester or $3,330 for the year. Students in graduate and other post-baccalaureate programs will pay $3,588 for more than six units each semester or $2,082 for less than seven units per semester. Students in doctoral programs will pay between $5,919 and $8,598 per semester. Non-resident tuition is an additional fee on top of standard tuition and is $396 per unit each semester for undergraduate programs or $270 per unit each semester for graduate programs.
Financial aid at California State University-East Bay is available through the federal student loan program, and students must submit their FAFSA between March 2nd and May 30th to gain eligibility for a federal student aid package. Students will begin receiving their financial aid award notifications in the middle of March.
