Concordia University – Portland Accreditation Details

Concordia University is accredited through the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities to award undergraduate and graduate degrees. Business and management programs are approved by The Accreditation Council for Business School & Programs. The teacher education programs are approved by the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission. Nursing degrees as the undergraduate level are nationally accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

Concordia University – Portland Application Requirements

High school graduates and college transfer students who have fewer than twelve credits can apply through the rolling admission process. Applicants can apply through either the Common Application or the online Concordia application. Students must submit official transcripts of academic coursework. The university awards credits for Advanced Placement (AP) scores of 3 or higher and recognizes International Baccalaureate (IB) scores at the higher-level (HL). Students must submit either SAT or ACT scores. Two letters of recommendation from two different references are required. The written essay may either be a past SAT Writing section or a response to a standard essay question. For example, it could be on how to overcome a challenging situation, how to grow future leadership abilities or how to apply academic coursework to a current career.

Tuition and Financial Aid

The undergraduate tuition for 0.5 to 5.5 semester credits is $450 per credit and 6.0 to 11.5 semester credits is $890 per credit. Students who take 12 to 18 semester credits every semester will pay $14,370. Students who exceed 18 credits per semester will only pay $245. Many first-year Bachelors of Art and Science students are eligible for academic scholarships. The actual award amounts are based on your high school GPAs and college placement test scores. Students who maintain a certain GPA do not need to demonstrate need because they these scholarships are renewable all four years.

For example, the Premier President’s Scholarship is $14,000, the President’s Scholarship is $13,500 and the Regents’ Scholarship is $11,000. Students with lower GPAs may win the Dean’s Award of $8,000, the University Award of $7,000, the Cavalier’s Award of $6,000 or the Faculty Award of $3,500. Leadership scholarships require students to submit a resume that expounds on major school, church, personal and community awards, activities and achievements. The Honors Scholarship Program is for top ranking students who will be awarded up to 50% of their tuition.

For instance, the Early Childhood Education degree is designed for teachers with associate degrees who want to make positive impacts in the lives of children. The bachelor’s degree in early childhood education focuses on students from the preschool years to the elementary school years. This is a non-licensure degree program concludes with an internship that serves as the final semester. The internship uses a cohort-based system that comes with networking support. Classes are offered entirely online or held one night a week on campus. The experienced faculty helps students learn about health care finance, budgeting, management, human resources, strategic planning and quality assessment.
