Humphrey’s College is an independent California university with over 120 years of experience in providing a solid liberal arts education. With campus locations in Modesto, Stockton, and five distinct areas of program focus, students gain a competitive advantage among their peers in the workforce. Humphrey’s College was founded in 1896 and as the first higher education university in San Joaquin Valley. John R. Humphrey’s Sr became president in 1937, with the goal of creating a small, independent school committed to higher education. The school, known as Humphrey’s College, was instituted in 1947 as a nonprofit education corporation under the California Education Code, governed by the board of trustees. In 1950, the same board established a four-year evening law school, which was later qualified in 1982. The college built a second campus in Modesto, California in 1987, and received its accreditation in 1992.

Humphrey’s College Accreditation Details

Humphrey’s College receives its accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Senior College and University Commission. Certain programs or areas of study receive separate accreditations, for instance, the Laurence Drivon School of Law is accredited by the Committee of Bar Examiners of the State Bar of California. Additionally, the court reporting program receives additional approval from the Court Reporters Board of California.

Humphrey’s College Application Requirements

The following are the basic undergraduate application requirements:

• Submit an undergraduate application form with the $40 application fee
• Submit official copies of your high school transcript or a GED certificate
• Submit official copies college transcripts from all previously attended colleges
• Students must take a placement exam to determine math and english placement at Humphrey’s

The following are the basic graduate application requirements:

• Submit a graduate application form with the $40.00 application fee
• Provide official, sealed transcripts from all colleges or universities attended. Each transcript must show proof of an earned bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• Provide evidence of a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA in the last 60 semesters or 90 quarter
• Submit proof of a B or better in an advanced writing course
• Provide evidence of a passing score on the CBEST, or a passing score on the Humphreys College writing proficiency exam.
• Turn in a written personal statement outlining the reasons for pursuing a graduate degree.
• Submit a current resume

Tuition and Financial Aid

Undergraduate students attending Humphrey’s College are charged a tuition rate of $389 per quarter unit. Units reaching 12 ½ -16 units are discounted to the 12-unit rate of $4,668.00, and 16 ½ units and above, are charged at the per unit rate of $389.00. Graduate students enrolled in the Master’s and Law program are charged a tuition rate of $528.00 per quarter unit.

The financial aid department at Humphrey’s College is dedicated to assisting students in the financial aid process. Students in need of financial assistance can receive help navigating through the financial aid qualification process, and learn more about student loan repayment options. The financial aid office awards quarterly financial aid. Individuals interested in applying for assistance can apply for grants, loans, or federal work study.

Student Experience

Humphrey’s College offers students a small, intimate, and welcoming community for students to learn, grow, and connect with peers and faculty. There are a variety of student clubs available on campus that offer field trips, activities, and networking opportunities. Also, students can access the career resource and job placement opportunities, which pair them with faculty for career training. Community Studies

With a degree in community studies, students are offered the ability to combine critical thinking with research technology to study sociology, and behavioral science. This course focuses on recognizing the positive values within a civic society and exploring a community’s place in modern American society. The community studies program is liberal and designed to direct student’s thoughts.

Court Reporting

Since the 1920’s Humphrey’s College has been providing students with machine stenography courses. Today, they have grown to provide board approved court reporting courses to students. This program offers skill and training through live dictation which enables students to prepare for the California state licensing test.

Early Childhood Education

Students enrolled in the early childhood program will learn how to care for the needs of young children by learning the unique characteristics of each age group. Since this degree prepares students for a teaching career, students will learn how to provide productive learning environments and evaluate curriculums for positive development. Additionally, this course will teach the skills needed to manage and supervise early childhood education programs successfully. Finally, upon completion of this course, students will have a complete understanding of the importance of a child’s support system.
