The University of Connecticut-Stamford (Stamford or UConn-Stamford) is a part of the University of Connecticut system. The school began in 1951 as an extension of the University of Connecticut for returning GIs from the Korean War. The first class of 31 part-time students chose from courses in English, history, speech, sociology, and mathematics. Today, the Stamford Campus offers 14 baccalaureate majors and five graduate-level programs. The student body has increased in size to 2,126 undergraduate and 702 graduate students and is climbing every year.

Eight undergraduate degrees are offered in coordination with other campuses within the University of Connecticut. The Nursing Accelerated Degree Program is considered a graduate-level degree because of the requirement that all applicants hold an undergraduate before being considered for the program. The program allows a student to move into an RN or BSN position upon graduation.

The University of Connecticut-Stamford Application Requirements
The acceptance rate at Stamford is 41% making the college a “very selective” school. SAT or ACT scores must be transmitted to the Admissions Department through the testing agency. An SAT score of 910-1130 or an ACT score of 17-24 are acceptable in many years, but with the selectivity at the school, higher test scores are recommended to ensure consideration. Official high school transcripts must also be presented reflecting a minimum GPA of 2.8 and the completion of college preparation courses including:

Tuition and Financial Aid
The University of Connecticut-Stamford has three levels of costs for tuition and required fees. The fees are different for Connecticut residents, North East region residents, and out-of-state or region residents. Connecticut residents pay a yearly tuition and fee rate of $15,256. Students living in the North East region pay $24,274, and students from outside those areas pay $37,924 per year. Students residing on the campus pay another $10,554 for room and board. Books and materials are separate costs and depend on the courses a student is taking from term to term.
There are several scholarship programs at the University of Connecticut-Stamford. An example is the merit scholarship programs for students who have achieved and maintained a high academic standard.
