When you’re putting together a financial aid package for college, it pays to look into the best renewable scholarships. A renewable award is good for more than one year — after the initial award, the funds continue to come in each semester as long as you meet the renewal requirements. The more of these awards you win, the easier it is to manage yearly education costs for the duration of a degree program.

1. AAUW American Fellowships

Eligibility

  • US citizen or permanent resident
  • Female

If you’re a graduate student, the AAUW American Fellowships program can provide the financial support you need. This award is designed to help as you finish your dissertation, take a research leave, or get ready to publish your research. The committee rates applications on academic records, a dedication to helping women, and the originality of the project. If you succeed, you’ll receive up to $30,000. Apply by November 1st.

2. ACS Scholars Program

Eligibility

  • Majoring in a chemistry-related field

Given by the American Chemical Society, the ACS Scholars Program is one of the best renewable scholarships for people in an underrepresented minority. It’s designed to increase diversity in fields related to chemistry. This award offers $2,500 your first year, $3,000 the second year, and $5,000 during the third and fourth years. 3. The University of Iowa Advantage Iowa Award

Eligibility

  • Admitted to the University of Iowa

Earn between $2,000 and $8,000 per year with the Advantage Iowa Award; the exact amount varies based on your demonstrated financial need. This scholarship is given by the University of Iowa; you can qualify for it your first year and get it every year thereafter. 4. Alabama Golf Association Women’s Scholarship Fund

Each year, the Alabama Golf Association gives out a $20,000 scholarship for a woman who has a demonstrated interest in golf. This award is split over four years and distributed each semester. The committee considers a range of factors, including academic performance, community involvement, sportsmanship, and citizenship. Expect to provide transcripts, test scores, and a photo. Apply by March 2nd.

5. Airgas – Terry Jarvis Memorial Scholarship

Eligibility

  • At least 18 years old
  • Full-time student
  • US citizen or legal permanent resident.

If you’re interested in becoming a welding engineer, this scholarship can help. Although the requirements are open, the committee gives preference to students who are interested in working with a company that does industrial gas or welding equipment. They also offer preference to students who reside in Alabama, Georgia, or Florida. This award is funded by Airgas and administered by the American Welding Society. Each scholarship is $2,500 per year. The application deadline is February 15th.

6. B. Brandford Barnes Memorial Scholarship

Eligibility

  • Resident of Delaware
  • High school senior
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Minimum SAT of 1290

If you’re planning to attend the University of Delaware full-time, this scholarship can cover all of your costs. Successful applicants get full tuition, fees, books, room, and board. As long as you maintain a GPA of 3.0, you’ll continue to receive this award for all four years of college. Applications are available on December 1st; your materials must be in by February 28th.

7. Banatao Family Filipino American Education Fund

Eligibility

  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Incoming freshman
  • Majoring in engineering, mathematics, computer science, environmental or physical science
  • Resident of one of the CA counties on an approved list

Get up to $20,000 for four years of college with this scholarship, which is administered by the Asian Pacific Fund. It’s funded by the family of Dado and Maria Banatao as a way to help Filipino students from California succeed in college. Apply by completing the APF scholarship application by March 2nd.

8. Beaty Martinez Foundation Scholarships

Eligibility

  • High school senior
  • Arizona resident
  • 3.0 minimum GPA
  • Accepted to an in-state college or university in Arizona

Cover the costs of tuition at Arizona State University, University of Arizona, or Northern Arizona University with scholarships from the Beaty Martinez Foundation. Applications are reviewed by the Board of Directors; you may be asked to come in for an interview. Expect to submit a personal statement, essay answers, and two letters of recommendation. Apply by May 1st for the fall semester and November 1st for the spring semester.

9. Bridgewater College Transfer Student Merit Awards

If you’re transferring in to Bridgewater College, apply for the Transfer Student Merit Awards. These scholarships can provide up to $25,000; as long as you meet the continuing GPA requirements, you can get the award every year. Award amounts are based on your incoming GPA. There’s no need to complete a separate application — BU automatically considers you for this award when you apply to the school.

10. Catch a Break! Scholarship Program

Eligibility

  • 21 or younger
  • Resident of Minnesota
  • Accepted at a public four-year college in Minnesota
  • Planning to live on campus as a freshman
  • ACT of 24 or higher
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5

This award provides up to $11,000 for your first year of school in Minnesota; it’s administered by Scholarship America. As long as you maintain a 2.5 GPA in your first year and 3.0 each year after that, you’ll continue to get the award. Keep in mind that winners must agree to meet with a mentor twice each year. Apply by March 1st.

11. Rutgers University First-Year Merit-Based Scholarships

  • Accepted to Rutgers–New Brunswick

First-year students attending Rutgers–New Brunswick can qualify for one or more of the school’s merit-based awards. As the name suggests, these scholarships are given on the basis of academic performance and test scores. The criteria change from year to year — all you need to do is apply to the university and submit all of the required materials within two weeks. Applications are due by December 1st.

12. The College of Saint Rose Annual Academic Scholarship

Eligibility

  • Accepted to The College of Saint Rose

If you’re accepted to The College of Saint Rose, you’re automatically in the running for the school’s first-year scholarships. These awards vary; the top award is $22,000, and the lowest is $15,000. The amount you can qualify for is based on your GPA, SAT score, or ACT score. To apply, all you need to do is complete the university application.

13. The David A. Hicks Scholarship for the Arts

The David A. Hicks Scholarship for the Arts awards $1,000 for a student who is attending school to earn a BA in an arts-related discipline. 14. Donna Easter Student Ethics Awards

If you’re in search of a flexible scholarship, this award is a great choice. The funds can be used for any cost associated with college, including room and board. There are five awards in total: one for $7,500, one for $5,000, and two for $2,500. This program is administered by the Better Business Bureau Serving Central & Northwest NC. 15. FMAA Scholarship Program

Eligibility

The Flag Manufacturers Association of America provides up to $2,000 in scholarship funds each year to students who can help raise awareness about issues with online sellers of American flags. To apply, all you need to do is fill out a short form, buy a counterfeit flag from a problematic seller, and make a video about the process. Keep in mind that your video becomes the property of FMAA; if you win, it will be published on the FMAA website and social media accounts. Submit your entry by May 30th.

16. Greenhouse Scholar Program

Eligibility

  • Resident of CO, GA, IL, or NC
  • Minimum GPA of 3.5
  • Financial need

This program is designed to help break the cycle of poverty and create change across generations. The base award offers up to $5,000 per year; you can also apply to get up to $2,000 extra in flex funding, which can be used for other projects or initiatives. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis; the two-part process deadlines are November 22nd and December 2nd. If you make it through the first two rounds, you become a finalist. Winners are notified by April.

17. Hanover College Scholarships

Hanover College provides a wide range of scholarships to admitted students; the awards start at $5,000 and go as high as $25,000. They’re renewable, so you can get them each year as long as you meet the criteria for renewal. Award amounts and criteria vary based on the competitiveness of your incoming class. The higher your GPA and test scores, the more you can get. There’s no separate application; you’re considered as soon as you apply for admission to Hanover.

18. Heidelberg University Grants

When you apply to Heidelberg University, the financial aid office automatically considers you for a variety of grants. Awards start at $500 and go as high as $16,000. For your best chance at receiving funding, be sure to fill out the FAFSA. Keep in mind that some grants have specific additional requirements; the UCC Ministerial Grant, for example, goes to children of ordained ministers in the UCC. If you’re not a resident of Ohio, you may qualify for the Out-of-State Grant for $3,000.

19. Hope College Distinguished Artist Award

Eligibility

  • Incoming first-year student at Hope College
  • Portfolio related to art, creative writing, dance, music, or theater

The Distinguished Artist Award offers $3,000 per year for students who are pursuing studies in the Art and Art History Department. It’s renewable for four years as long as you maintain a 2.6 GPA and take at least one art class every semester. As part of your DAA application, you must upload a portfolio using SlideRoom. This portfolio should show off your work in any arts discipline, including theater and dance. The deadline to apply is January 20th.

20. Humana Foundation Scholarships

  • Dependent child of a Humana employee

  • Enrolled or accepted in a degree-granting program

Every year, the Humana Foundation provides scholarships to the children of Humana employees. The awards offer each student up to $3,000; you can renew them every year for three additional years or until you get a degree. If your parent works part-time for Humana, you can get up to $1,500 per year. Keep in mind that children of the company’s officers are not eligible. Expect to submit a transcript with your application. Apply by March 11th.

21. Remington College Academic Achievement Scholarship

The Remington College Academic Achievement Scholarship provides $500 to students with a track record of strong academic performance in their high school careers. To qualify, you must be looking to come to Remington as a first-time student. Any applicant who meets the criteria receives this award — however, you must submit the separate scholarship application to the financial aid department.

22. The University of Iowa Provost Scholarship

  • Be a National Merit Scholars or a National Hispanic Scholar
  • Accepted at the University of Iowa

If you’re a part of the National Merit Scholars or the National Hispanic Scholars programs, you can qualify for this scholarship. Keep in mind that you’ll need to mark the University of Iowa as your first choice. The award provides $3,000 every year; you can renew it every year as long as your GPA is 3.0 or higher. The Jane Allen Newman Scholarship Fund provides $2,500 per year to three recipients. 25. CUNY Joseph S. Murphy Scholarship for Diversity in Labor Program

  • Member of a minority that’s underrepresented in the labor industry
  • Completed at least 60 college credits with 2.5 GPA (undergraduate)

Undergraduates and graduate students in the CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies are eligible for this scholarship. Qualifying majors are the master’s in Labor Studies or the bachelor’s in Urban and Community Studies. The undergraduate award totals $20,000; the graduate award is $30,000. The goal of this program is to increase diversity in the field of labor, particularly when it comes to union leadership. 26. Jacksonville State University First-Time Freshman Merit-Based Scholarships

  • Accepted to Jacksonville State University

Jacksonville State University automatically considers all incoming freshmen for merit-based scholarships. The awards come in different amounts; the most valuable is the Gamecock Prestige, which goes to students with a GPA or higher and minimum test scores of 31 ACT and 1390 SAT. Make sure that you complete the ACT or SAT test by May 1st to be considered. JSU also offers a range of competitive scholarships to augment your financial aid package; these awards require a separate application that’s due by February 1st.

If you’re an international student who’s been accepted to Johnson & Wales University, you may qualify for the International Presidential Scholarship. This renewable award is good for up to four years, as long as you’re enrolled full-time.
