Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) offers a robust range of undergraduate and graduate programs. Over 100 degrees are offered through the institution’s five colleges: the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Adult and Professional Studies, the School of Nursing, Wesley Seminary, and the College of Graduate Studies.

The College of Arts and Sciences offers almost 90 undergraduate majors. While IWU offers traditional programs such as Biology, Accounting, and Mathematics, the university also has a range of innovative options like Art and Design for Social Impact and Applied Music. The university is known for its music and production program where undergraduate students may study in specializations like Music Therapy, Music Composition, and Church Music.

The College of Adult and Professional Studies offers degrees and continuing education opportunities for working professionals and adult students. Some of the associate’s degrees from this college are Accounting, Business, and Computer Information Technology. Adult Students may also choose from bachelor’s degrees like Healthcare Administration, Hospitality Management, and Business Information Systems. Indiana Wesleyan University is a private, liberal arts institution located in Marion, Indiana. IWU has a strong historical and current affiliation with the Wesleyan Church denomination, and this religious connection is fostered within daily life and program curriculums at the university. Though IWU welcomes students from all faith backgrounds, chapel services and church-related majors are conducted through the lens of the Wesleyan Church.

The campus where IWU is now located was originally home to a teacher training school known as the Marion Normal College, founded in 1890. Since these early days, the university has experienced phenomenal growth and enjoys generous funding from the Wesleyan Church. Today, IWU is the largest private university in Indiana and the largest member of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities. IWU most recently continued its expansion with the launch of online adult education programs that invite distance learners to join the university’s student body.

Indiana Wesleyan University Accreditation Details

Indiana Wesleyan University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). The HLC is recognized by the US Department of Education as an accrediting body. IWU first earned accreditation in 1966 and has retained this distinction through its most recent reaffirmation in 2011. The institution is next scheduled for reaffirmation in 2020.

IWU also holds program-specific accreditations from respected organizations that judge excellence in education. Accreditations earned by the science degrees at IWU include ones from the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education, the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, and the Council on Education for Public Health. IWU’s arts accrediting organizations are the American Music Therapy Association and the National Association of Schools of Music. Other IWU program accrediting bodies include the Association of Theological Schools, the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs, the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation, and the Council on Social Work Education.

Indiana Wesleyan University Application Requirements

The undergraduate application process for IWU may be completed online, and applications submitted after December 1st for the fall semester of the following year require the payment of a $25 application fee. Though applicants are considered until the start of student orientation activities, interested students are encouraged to apply as early as possible to be given priority in admissions decisions, housing, and scholarships. The IWU Department of Admissions must receive an official copy of all secondary school transcripts and official SAT or ACT scores from each applicant. In general, students who are accepted to IWU have a GPA of at least 2.6 and an SAT score of 880 or ACT score of 18. Applicants who do not meet these requirements may still be accepted pending a deeper review of academic history and performance. Students can expect to hear their admissions decision two weeks after submitting all the required documents.

Applicants to IWU’s graduate programs may submit required materials online and are not required to pay an application fee. This includes students who are applying to either traditional or online graduate programs. Through requirements vary between programs, graduate applicants generally must have an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 to be accepted. For fields such as counseling or social work, applicants must provide proof of completing the specified prerequisite undergraduate coursework that will prepare them for the rigors of in-depth study at a graduate level. Other requirements include submitting official GRE scores, a writing sample, and three recommendations from academic and professional references. Candidates with professional experience in their proposed fields of study are preferred.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Undergraduate tuition at IWU is $26,630. The total cost of one year of study, including room and board, personal expenses, and textbooks, is $38,578. Graduate tuition at IWU is $533 per credit hour. Additional fees will be assessed depending on the program of study.

Both undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine their eligibility for government-sponsored funding. IWU has a range of undergraduate academic scholarships that will be awarded based on an applicant’s transcripts and test scores. These annual awards range from $14,000-$4,000. Graduate aid offered by IWU includes competitive academic scholarships, servant leadership scholarships, and research assistantships. Program-specific aid, like the Bramsen Endowment for Family Counseling, is available for each graduate degree.
