Students interested in dual enrollment will enroll in the Bridge Program, which allows high school students to earn college credits before they receive a high school diploma. Students can earn up to 24 credits toward their bachelor’s degree, which means taking four classes in the junior year and senior year of high school. To qualify for the Bridge Program, applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, as well as secure a recommendation from their principal, a teacher, or a guidance counselor.

Degrees offered at Mid-America Christian University are available as associate’s, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees. From the School of Arts and Sciences, students can pursue a Bachelor of Science in Communication and Ethics or a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration and Ethics. From the business school, available programs include those in business, accounting, management information systems, health care administration, and management.

Ministerial and Christian-focused degrees are a large part of what the university offers, and students can pursue degrees like a Bachelor of Science in Christian Ministry, a Master of Ministry, or a Master of Science, Counseling – Pastoral/Spiritual. Traditional undergraduate students and some graduate students will take their classes on campus. In addition to ministry degrees available online, other online degrees include the Master of Arts in Leadership, the Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and Ethics, the Bachelor of Science in Digital Marketing, and the Bachelor of Science in Data Analytics. The university also offers several certificates for adult online study that include the Addiction and Substance Abuse Counseling Certificate, the Church Staff Leadership Certificate, the Women in Ministry Leadership Certificate, and the Victim Advocacy Certificate.

About Mid-America Christian University

Mid-America Christian University was established in 1953 as the South Texas Bible Institute and focused on Bible-based programs and education for future members of the ministry. The university is located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and the campus covers 65 acres. At one time, the university was located in Houston, Texas. The university’s official colors are red and white.

Approximately 2,500 students attend the university. Sports teams at the university play as the Evangels and games are played within the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. The university is also affiliated with the Sooner Athletic Conference. Some games are played within the National Christian College Athletic Association. Popular sports at the university include baseball, basketball, golf, cross country, and soccer.

The university was first accredited in 1978 when it was named Gulf Coast Bible College and was located in Houston, Texas. Institutional accreditation first came from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools but would eventually come from the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools after the university was moved to Oklahoma. The university also participates in the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement for distance education.

Programmatic accreditation at the university exists for the university’s School of Teacher Education, which is accredited by the Office of Educational Quality and Accountability. Further affiliations held by the university include those with the American Association of Higher Education, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, and the United States Department of Education.

Mid-America Christian University Application Requirements

Applications to Mid-America Christian University are accepted on a rolling basis, which means there are no firm deadlines that students must meet for the fall semester. The application fee is $50, and students can use an online application when applying. At the time of application, students can submit scores from Advanced Placement classes, dual-credit classes, and life experience credits that can transfer into the program the student chooses.

The university has four different types of applications that depend on a student’s status. Applications include those for traditional students, online and adult students, transfer students, and military students. Applicants will need to meet specific criteria for their status. For example, transferring to MACU requires submitting an application, providing a copy of a U.S. government-issued identification, and sending transcripts from all previously attended institutions.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Tuition at Mid-America Christian University is $732 per credit hour, which equals yearly tuition of $17,568 per year when students take 12 to 17 credit hours each semester. Fees add an average of $635 per semester. A room adds a further $2,228 per semester, and a meal plan is an additional $1,910 per semester. In all, students should expect to pay $27,114 per year to attend MACU.

Some programs have additional fees, and the university also has a variety of fees overall that it charges most students. Some fees include a parking fee of $25 per semester, an audit fee of $175 per course, a science lab fee of $75 per course, and a music major fee of $250 per course. Students may also pay an electronic transcript fee of $6, a late registration fee of $150, and a payment plan conversion fee of $50 per semester.

Several types of financial aid are available to students who attend Mid-America Christian University. Students may qualify for grants, scholarships, loans, or offers of student employment through the Federal Work-Study Program. Students should submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for a chance at receiving federal assistance like Federal Pell Grants or the Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG).

For students who are residents of Oklahoma, there are two options available in state-funded grants that include the “OK Promise” Oklahoma Higher Learning Access Program (OHLAP) and the Oklahoma Tuition Equalization Grant. Students can qualify for OHLAP while in high school and then use the grant while attending Mid-America Christian University as a college student.
