About St. Joseph’s College

St. Joseph’s College originated on February 24, 1916, when the New York Board of Regents chartered the all-female school founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Brentwood. In 1920, its inaugural class of 14 women graduated with four-year bachelor’s degrees. In 1928, the St. Joseph’s College of Women earned initial regional accreditation. In 1934, President William T. Dillon opened one of the East Coast’s first collegiate preschools called the Child Study Center. In 1965, the McEntegart Hall Library was established at its 29-acre Brooklyn campus. In 1970, it became St. Joseph’s College to start admitting male students. Five years later, the School of Adult & Professional Education blossomed for non-traditional degrees. In 1978, a 32-acre waterfront tract was purchased for the Long Island campus. By 1995, St. Joseph’s College reached the graduate level with an M.A. in Infant/Toddler Therapeutic Education.

St. Joseph’s College Accreditation Details

On June 21, 2018, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) Board of Trustees commended St. Joseph’s College by reaffirming the Level III accreditation status through 2025-26 under its eight president, Dr. Donald R. Boomgaarden, a Fulbright Scholar who graduated from Harvard’s Institute for Management & Leadership in Education. St. Joseph’s College Application Requirements

Starting at St. Joseph’s College is classified “moderately difficult” by Peterson’s because only 1,298 of the 1,693 Fall 2017 applicants were selected for 77 percent acceptance. First-year Golden Eagles must culminate a challenging, college-prep high school curriculum or the GED equivalent. The Class of 2021 presented an average 3.5 GPA, 1102 SAT, and 23 ACT mark. Seventy percent of admitted freshmen scored 3 or higher on at least one AP course. Qualified transfers will have 30+ college credits graded over C- for a minimum 2.0 GPA. Foreign undergrads must be English proficient with an 80 TOEFL, 6.5 IELTS, or ESL Level 112 grade. Graduate School cohorts should uphold cumulative GPAs over 3.0 in the last 60 bachelor’s credits. The M.S.N. requires valid New York State licensure plus 12 months of bedside experience and malpractice insurance. Education master’s programs consider a PreK-12 teaching credential prerequisite. Incoming M.B.A. students report a median 502 GMAT score.
