Degrees Available at the University of Oregon

The University of Oregon has more than 300 undergraduate programs and 80 graduate programs available for study. The university’s most popular majors include those in business, commerce, the social sciences, economics, psychology, and advertising. Degrees are housed within seven schools and colleges that include the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Design, and the College of Education.
Additional programs are handled within the Lundquist College of Business, the School of Journalism and Communication, the School of Law, and the School of Music and Dance. Some of the interests available to students include advertising and marketing, art and design, and environment and sustainability.
The university offers a popular dual enrollment program for students who want to take classes at the university and are also enrolled at a local community college. Partner schools for this program include Lane Community College and Southwestern Oregon Community College. Students must submit their dual enrollment application at least three weeks before the first day of classes.
Students will pay the fees associated with each campus they attend, as well as the tuition for the school where the classes are held. For example, classes at the University of Oregon will be billed at the U of O rate, and classes at Lane Community College will be billed at the community college’s rate.
Financial aid is available for students in the dual enrollment program, but there are some limitations based on how many credits a student has completed. Benefits of dual enrollment include flexible course selection, access to extra services and activities, and assistance with planning a course schedule. Students can even live in the university’s residence hall while taking part in the dual enrollment program.
The University of Oregon also offers pre-baccalaureate programs for high school students, which allow motivated high school students to enroll in university classes. The Duck Link program allows high school students from the local county to enroll in up to eight credits for a lower rate than what is traditionally charged for college courses.
Classes may be selected from those in the social sciences, science, and arts and letters. Areas of emphasis include biology, environmental studies, geology, and physics, as well as anthropology, history, humanities, and foreign languages. Applications for the pre-baccalaureate program require approval from a high school counselor.
About the University of Oregon
The University of Oregon was established in 1876, and its Eugene, Oregon campus is the flagship institution of the system. The campus covers 295 acres, and it sits on the Willamette River. The governing body of the university is the Board of Trustees of the University of Oregon. The university has also earned a grade of “highest research activity” from the Carnegie Foundation and has also been a member of the Association of American Universities since 1969.
Around 22,700 students attend the university, which features academic quarters rather than semesters. The university’s official colors are yellow and green, and the teams are nicknamed the Ducks. Teams play in NCAA Division I games in the Pac-12 conference. The track and field program is well-known at the university, and the football team is popular, too. The University of Oregon Accreditation Details
The University of Oregon has earned its regional accreditation from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, and many of its programs also boast specialized accreditation. The National Association of Schools of Art and Design has accredited the graduate programs in arts and administration. The American Psychological Association has accredited the Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology.
The American Chemical Society has accredited the programs offered by the Department of Chemistry. The Landscape Architecture Accreditation Board has accredited the Department of Landscape Architecture’s programs. The Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication has accredited the programs offered within the School of Journalism and Communications.
The University of Oregon Application Requirements
Basic admission requirements for first-year students at the University of Oregon include successful graduation from an accredited high school and a grade of C- or better in several required high school courses. Prospective students must submit their ACT or SAT scores and an application essay of 650 words or less. Students can also submit an optional second essay.
Students who don’t meet the admission requirements of the university may qualify for alternative admission. Homeschooled students are also welcome to apply, and applicants who have earned a GED are eligible, too. For graduate students, eligibility for advanced degree and graduate certificate programs includes having a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, as well as submitting all required documents for the student’s desired program. The application fee is $70.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Tuition at the University of Oregon is $12,720 for Oregon residents and $36,615 for non-residents. Those rates are based on the typical course load of 15 credits per term. Students who live in the on-campus residence halls will pay an additional $12,400 for room and board. Other costs include an estimated $1,178 for books and supplies, $2,091 for personal expenses, and $375 for transportation.
For graduate students, tuition and fees are $17,238 for residents and $29,091 for non-residents. Campus housing is $12,181 for all students. Books and supplies add an estimated $1,178, personal expenses add $2,091, and transportation costs add $375. In all, graduate students who are residents of Oregon pay $33,063 and non-residents pay $45,867. Students will also need to pay a one-time matriculation fee.
The University of Oregon offers its students more than $245 million each year in aid, which includes funds from federal, state, foundation, private, and institutional sources. The university reveals that around 65 percent of its undergraduates receive some type of financial aid or scholarships. To qualify for financial aid, students should submit their FAFSA form as soon as possible.
Scholarships for which a student may qualify include the Stamps Scholarship, which is available to students with a GPA of at least 3.85, an SAT score of 1300, or an ACT score of 28. Also available is the Presidential Scholarship, which is offered to students with the same level of academic achievement. Students who attend the University of Oregon may also apply for the Diversity Excellence Scholarship, the Summit Scholarship, or the Apex Scholarship.
