One of the features of the undergraduate programs at Canisius College is the Core Curriculum requirement that all students must complete as part of their bachelor’s degree. There are four core components featured in every degree program that include foundation courses, breadth of knowledge courses, cross-disciplinary knowledge & skills courses, and the core capstone experience. Within the core curriculum experience, students will take classes like Academic Writing, Introduction to Philosophy, Introduction to Religious Studies, and Writing about Literature. The classes required in the core curriculum are described as multi-disciplinary and are meant to augment the college experience for all degree programs.
Students who want to study in a distance education program have many options for online programs at Canisius College with degrees and programs like Respiratory Care, Bilingual Education Extension, Applied Nutrition, Sport Product Development and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). In all, there are 16 options for online study for master’s degrees and advanced certificates. Undergraduate degrees at the university are offered on campus, so students may enroll in their undergraduate degree on campus and then consider one of the college’s online degrees when they continue into a graduate program.
About Canisius College
Located in Buffalo, New York, Canisius College is a private school that was founded by the Jesuits in the 1870s. The school’s urban campus covers 72 acres, and the institution is one of the 28 schools affiliated with the Society of Jesus in the United States. Students may participate in any one of 20 varsity teams that play in NCAA Division I games. The school is part of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, and students play as the Golden Griffins and the Lady Griffins. The college’s official colors are blue and gold. The student population at the college is approximately 3,400 with just over 1,000 of those students taking graduate-level courses. The college has recently introduced new majors like Creative Writing, Animal Behavior, Ecology, & Conservation, and Health & Wellness.

Canisius College Application Requirements
Admission to Canisius College requires a completed application, a recommendation from a school counselor, a personal essay, official transcripts from high school, and official SAT or ACT scores. Although they aren’t required, the college also recommends that students submit a letter of recommendation from a teacher and a list of extra-curricular activities participated in by the student. The Admissions Committee at Canisius College looks at the academic rigor of the classes the applicant has taken in high school. The average student admitted as a freshman to Canisius College has a high school average of 90 percent, an SAT combined score of 1170, or an ACT composite score of 24. For graduate students, the admission requirements also include the official application, as well as two letters of recommendation, and additional requirements that vary by program.
