The University of Denver, founded in 1864, was the first institution of higher learning in the city. Since then, prominent private colleges and universities have spread throughout the surrounding metro area.

Methodology

We reviewed colleges and universities within eighty miles of the city. We selected accredited universities and private colleges that offered at least one online degree program. From our pool of schools, we examined rankings with major publications like Forbes magazine and U.S. News and World Report. We selected institutions that earned at least one ranking. Schools with multiple rankings were positioned higher on our list.
