University of Florida Academic Degrees

UF is divided into several academic and professional colleges. In the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, the varied selection of undergraduate majors includes Agricultural Operations Management, Animal Sciences, Biology, Natural Resource Conservation, Forest Resources and much more. Biology and Environmental Management undergraduate degree programs also are offered online. Graduate opportunities involve a list of options in addition to Soil and Water Sciences, Genetics, Entomology and more.
The College of the Arts allows students to pursue bachelor’s degrees in subject matter such as Art History, Drawing, Graphic Design, Music, Theater and Dance. A Bachelor of Arts in Digital Arts & Sciences is offered both in the traditional format and online. Many of the same programs are available at the graduate level, with some subjects being offered exclusively at the master’s level. These include the Master’s in Design & Visual Communications, Museum Studies, Conducting and the Master’s in Digital Arts & Sciences.
At the Warrington College of Business Administration, students choose from academic programs with the Heavener School of Business, the Fisher School of Accounting and the Hough Graduate School of Business depending upon their background and goals. Some MBAs may be pursued entirely online with a program also being offered for undergraduates in the Business Administration program.
With the College of Design, Construction & Planning, students may choose from undergraduate degree programs such as Architecture, Construction Management, and Sustainability and the Built Environment. All of these programs are offered in the classroom. Graduate programs include Architecture, Construction Management, Historic Preservation, and Urban and Regional Planning. A custom Ph.D. program may be designed by the student and a mentor in any of these areas.
Undergraduate degrees at the College of Education include Education Sciences as well as two five-year programs that result in a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree. These are Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education. Graduate-level programs include Counselor Education, Education Administration, and School Psychology. All of these programs must be attended on campus.
The Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering is divided into nine departments providing undergraduates majors ranging from Aerospace Engineering and Biomedical Engineering to Mechanical Engineering and Nuclear Engineering. The graduate-level enable students to focus in areas such as Materials Science, Industrial & Systems Engineering, Environmental Engineering Sciences and more. Some master’s degree programs may be completed online.
Bachelor’s degree programs at the College of Health & Human Performance encompass Applied Physiology, Athletic Training, Health Education & Behavior, Sport Management, and Tourism, Event & Recreation Management. Students also may earn a master’s degree in these subjects, with the Master of Science in Sports Management being available online.
In the College of Journalism and Communication, students may pursue bachelor’s degrees in four departments: Journalism, Advertising, Telecommunication, and Public Relations. Online degrees are available for Public Relations and Telecommunications. Graduate options include a professional master’s program for on-campus students, a research and theory communications master’s and online programs in seven different specializations.
The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences is where students major in diverse subject matter such as Anthropology, English, History, Languages, Mathematics, Political Science, Psychology, Statistics and more. Online and master’s degree programs in Anthropology, Criminology, Psychology, and others are available.
The Colleges of Nursing, Pharmacy, and Public Health and Health Professionals all are dedicated to helping students pursue their dreams of helping others lead healthier lives. A variety of undergraduate and graduate programs are available, including for areas such as nursing, health science, biostatistics, epidemiology and more. Several of these programs may be completed online.
Students also may attend one of many professional programs at the university. The College of Dentistry focuses on preparing students to become a Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry while the Levin College of Law provides a comprehensive education for prospective attorneys. The University of Florida also features a College of Veterinary Medicine and a College of Medicine that U.S. News & World Report ranks among the 20 top public medical schools in the U.S.
About the University of Florida
Ranked by Forbes in second place in the nation for “Best Value Public Colleges,” UF is a respected institution. Similarly, U.S. News & World Report places UF in the eighth spot among all public universities in the US.
UF has its roots in four distinct institutions, the first of which was the East Florida Seminary, founded in 1853. By 1905, the seminary has been consolidated with other higher education institutions to form the University of the State of Florida. Gainesville campaigned tirelessly to host the new institution, eventually winning the fight and beginning construction on the campus. The school’s name was modernized to the University of Florida in 1909, with the alligator mascot being chosen a couple of years later.
Today, UF is a part of the Association of American Universities and is considered a worldwide leader in research. Approximately 53,000 students enroll in its programs every year.
University of Florida Accreditation Details
As a whole, the university is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. Individual colleges and programs are accredited by other organizations such as the AVMA, CEPH, ABET, CAPTE, CAA, the NAAB, the CODA, and many others.
University of Florida Application Requirements
Freshman applicants fill out an online application and submit a non-refundable $30 fee. Qualifications include a high school diploma, SAT or ACT scores, and a 550-word essay.
Graduate applicants similarly complete an online application, which is submitted with a $30 fee. Test scores from GRE, GMAT or FE may be required depending upon the program applied for. Students also may be required to submit essays, resumes, letters of recommendation and other documentation.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Undergraduates may expect to pay $6,400 in tuition per academic year. Graduate students pay tuition of $12,740 per academic year. Some professional and MBA programs may require the payment of block fees.
Scholarships, grants, and loans are among the most commonly used forms of financial aid at UF. Scholarships and grants may be awarded by UF, colleges within UF or outside organizations. Loans generally are obtained from the federal government or a private lender.
