About Binghamton University
Binghamton University originated in 1946 when IBM Chairman Thomas J. Watson worked with Syracuse University to open the two-year Triple Cities College in Endicott for WWII vets. Two years later, upper-division courses were added for the first Bachelor of Science. In 1950, TCC received independence as Harpur College and joined Governor Dewey’s new SUNY system. Merged with Champlain College in 1952, Harpur broke ground on its 387-acre Southern Tier campus within Vestal in 1961. During President G. Bruce Dearing’s tenure, it was renamed the State University of New York at Binghamton in 1965. The Decker School of Nursing began in 1969 before the School of Engineering & Applied Science opened in 1983. One decade later, the SUNY site was rebranded Binghamton University. On November 17, 2016, Binghamton University satisfactorily submitted the Fifth-Year Review Report to the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) to check 14 Characteristics of Excellence are met so Level VI accreditation continues until 2021 under its seventh president, Dr. Harvey G. Stenger, who earned the Charles Campbell Service Award. Located 187 miles down Interstate 81 in Philadelphia, this superb six-state Northeast accreditor is recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and New York State Education Department. Binghamton University Application Requirements
Beginning at Binghamton University is labeled “very difficult” by Peterson’s because only 13,507 of the 33,467 Fall 2017 applicants were welcomed for 40 percent acceptance. First-year Bearcats should finish a 16-unit Regents diploma or a GED equivalency certificate. Most freshmen ranked in the upper 40th percentile of their graduating class. The Class of 2021 only admitted 2 percent of students with GPAs below 3.0. On average, undergrads present a 3.65 GPA, 695 SAT Math, 683 SAT Reading, and 30 ACT mark. More than 3,000 transfers in good standing are chosen with 12+ credits graded “C” or better. English proficiency scores over 82 TOEFL iBT and 6.5 IELTS are preferred. The Graduate School only seeks regionally accredited bachelor’s completers with cumulative GPAs above 3.0 in the last 60 credits. The Social Work MSW requires 24 liberal arts credits, including Introductory Psychology. The Economics Ph.D. has mean GRE scores of 157 Verbal and 160 Quantitative. Management Ph.D. cohorts report a median 670 GMAT mark. The PharmD has 17 prerequisites, such as Organic Chemistry and Anatomy, listed.
Binghamton University enforces freshman deadlines of November 1st for Early Action and January 15th for Regular Admission. Priority transfer dates are November 1st for Spring and March 1st for Fall. The Graduate School publishes specific program deadlines online. For instance, the Educational Studies MS considers candidates until February 1st and October 15th while the Music Opera MM has a firm January 15th deadline. Tuition and Financial Aid
For 2018-19, Binghamton University has billed full-time New York undergrads $3,435 by term or $6,870 annually. Non-resident bachelor’s majors spend $11,855 each semester and $23,710 every year. Mandatory student fees equal $1,467 by term. Living at the Vestal campus’ dorms like Dickinson Community adds $4,684 to $7,356 each semester.
