Arizona State University Accreditation Details
Accreditation is essential for an institution of higher learning and students should make sure the school they attend is accredited. By doing so, students know that the institution meets or exceeds quality standards for their financial and educational performance. While not a guarantee that it continues to do so, it does show good faith. They appropriately manage and receive their financial aid funding, as well.
ASU has maintained their accreditation by the HLC (Higher Learning Committee) since 1931. It is a continual accreditation that spans through to all four campuses of Arizona State University.
Accreditation must be reviewed periodically and their review through the 2009-2013 school year resulted in a reaffirmation of Arizona State University’s accreditation for the next 10 years, through 2023. No stipulations were made to the accreditation based on a positive review.
Arizona State University Application Requirements
Before students are admitted to ASU, they must complete an admission application, either for undergraduate or graduate levels. Potential students can apply online and can also expedite the process by self-reporting their high school grades. Students must also submit their application fee, which is nonrefundable. For Arizona residents, the cost is $50, and for nonresidents, it is $70.
Students must also send transcripts, even if they choose to self-report their grades from high school. The high school must send an official copy of the transcripts to the university for verification. Potential students must also request their ACT or SAT scores to be sent to ASU directly.
Once these steps are completed, potential students can check the status of the application online. Before getting accepted, or immediately after, students must fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
Tuition and Financial Aid
Tuition costs do vary, but a general estimate can help new students (and/or their parents) prepare for college. Undergraduate programs cost between $520 and $728 per credit hour, which includes program fees. Graduate programs cost between $522 and $1,397 per credit hour, which includes program fees. Certificate programs cost between $595 and $1,153 per credit hour.
Resident freshmen can expect to pay about $10,822 per year, which doesn’t include housing, meals, supplies/books, transportation, or personal needs, while nonresidents can expect to pay $28,336 before all extra fees.
Financial aid is available through a variety of means. Free gift aid in the form of grants and scholarships do not require repayment and is usually based on need, though some grants/scholarships are available for particular fields or majors.
Loans are another type of financial aid available and do require repayment. Each one is likely to have different terms, though they usually have lower interest rates and they may be easier to obtain than private or traditional lender loans.
ASU is also proud to offer employment opportunities, which help students pay for college. These include on-campus jobs and federal work studies. Many times, students get paid for the work they do (extra spending money) and also reduce their tuition and fees. Plus, studies have shown that students who work while attending college do better than classmates who do not work.
Over 80 percent of all students at Arizona State University receive financial aid of some sort each year. However, students are not required to use financial aid if they choose not to do so and have the funds from other means to pay for education. Financial assistance is offered by Arizona State University to help students afford a higher education that can lead them on a better path, which gives them a better career and the means to enjoy what they do by learning new things.
